TRLabs takes its lead from industry. Most members of the Board of Directors and senior management are drawn from the private sector.

Industry members set the direction of the research program, specifying areas of interest. They contribute investment, equipment and personnel. These contributions are leveraged by contributions from university and government partners.

University partners provide professors and students who complete research projects.

Government partners provide investment and look to TRLabs' output of highly skilled graduates and new technology to promote regional economic development.
