Dr. Sergio Camorlinga obtained his bachelor in engineering degree in electronic systems from Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, USA and University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada respectively.
He was previously a principal investigator and software architect at the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Centre from 1999 to 2006. In 2006, he joined TRLabs as a research scientist and manager for the eHealth program at Telecommunications Research Labs, and in 2009 he became the Focus Area Leader for the eHealth research program. He is also a Lecturer at the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine and Adjunct Professor at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, MB Canada.
Dr. Camorlinga research interests are in health informatics. Health Informatics is the interdisciplinary research field that is uniquely placed at the intersection of medical sciences, health care, physics, mathematics, biology, computer science and engineering. Dr. Camorlinga has done research and developed systems and models that help in the acquisition, processing, analysis, and interpretation of the patient information. Most of his research has focused in the areas of imaging informatics in medicine, complex adaptive systems and its applications to biological systems and medical imaging.
From 1986 to 1999, he had different positions in the telecommunications, financial and engineering industries as software engineer, product engineer, technology consultant and IT director. Also, he was a university assistant professor for several years from 1992-1996. In the entrepreneur side, Dr. Camorlinga co-founded and co-owns a technology company providing software products and services in a variety of industries since 1987.
Dr. Camorlinga is member of the Association of Computing Machinery, the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. He is also a board member of the Life Science Association of Manitoba. Dr. Camorlinga has several publications in health informatics conferences and journals.
