YottaYotta joins forces with TRLabs to explore new data storage technologies
October 24, 2000 -- Edmonton, AB - TRLabs is pleased to welcome YottaYotta to its growing network of industry-university-government sponsors.
Together, the two organizations will undertake projects involving eight researchers to explore and develop novel data storage technologies. This collaboration aims to create commercializable technologies for YottaYotta and will provide challenging research projects to prepare TRLabs students for careers in information and communications technology (ICT).
YottaYotta develops technology for Yottabyte - 1 trillion terabytes - data storage. The YottaYotta NetStorageª Cube is based on a proprietary scalable architecture that uses distributed computing and clustering to provide data storage well beyond the capacity of currently available systems. Other advantages include shared access, n-tier fault-tolerant redundancy and massive scalability.
Says Geoff Hayward, Director of Strategic Alliances and Optical Ventures at YottaYotta, "We are a new company with a unique product at the forefront of advanced data storage technology. By investing in research from the start and aligning ourselves with Western Canada's premier ICT research organization, we can ensure that we will always have new technologies in the pipeline and continual access to high-quality ICT talent - two major elements in the formula for growth and success."
The YottaYotta NetStorage Cube meets upcoming data storage requirements of the Wide Area Network (WAN) for carriers, Storage Area Network (SAN) for corporations, Local Area Network (LAN) for desktop multimedia, Portal Area Network (PAN) for Internet portals, Multi-Media Area Network (M2AN) for video and voice streaming and Broadband Area Network (BAN) for bi-directional broadcasts.
"Part of TRLabs mandate is to enhance regional economic growth and help to develop a strong local ICT industry. Through partnership with TRLabs, emerging technology companies like YottaYotta gain support via our outputs in people and technology. YottaYotta is one of more than 40 rapidly growing high-tech companies in Western Canada that will benefit from access to TRLabs technologies, facilities and expertise, networking opportunities with TRLabs major industrial sponsors such as Nortel Networks, Lucent Bell Labs, MCI WorldCom, TELUS and SaskTel and a priority opportunity to recruit from a highly qualified group of TRLabs graduates," says Michael Leung, TRLabs Vice President of Business Development.
