Three Edmonton companies join TRLabs: OA Internet, ROAM I.T. and zed.i solutions

April 20, 2001 -- Edmonton, AB - Three more Edmonton companies are plugging into TRLabs growing network of sponsors.

OA Internet, ROAM I.T. and zed.i solutions recently joined TRLabs Industry Associates Program, which gives technology companies with revenues <$30 million access to TRLabs research, technology, facilities and people. Now the program has eleven members in Edmonton (38% growth), greatly increasing opportunities for research and business collaboration among sponsors.

Mike Leung, TRLabs Vice President of Business Development, is not surprised by the rapid growth of this program. "Through the Industry Associates Program, emerging technology companies can obtain TRLabs membership advantages at an affordable price. Each of these new sponsors brings a different area of expertise to the consortium, multiplying opportunities for productive business collaboration and effective networking."

OA Internet (www.oagroup.com/internet), a wholly owned subsidiary of OA Group, is an Internet Service Provider. The company provides clients with Dial up access, high-speed DSL access, its new Airlink wireless high-speed service, hosting services and application and network services.

ROAM I.T. (www.roam-it.com) builds leading edge software for EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency service providers. The company's flagship product, RAMPART-EMS™, sets the standard for the easy, accurate, and efficient entry, analysis, and reporting of patient care data from an EMS environment.

zed.i solutions (www.zedisolutions.com) manufactures high technology equipment for the oil and gas industry. Its highly sensitive, reliable electronic memory gauge, or probe, enables oil and gas production companies to obtain accurate "downhole" data with remarkable cost-effectiveness. zed.i has recently launched the Smart-Alek™, an intelligent remote monitoring system that provides feedback on pressure, temperature and flow in wells. Using the Internet, it provides a variety of information, including alarm warnings, to the producers.

Sponsors benefit from membership in TRLabs in a number of ways. They have priority access to researchers specializing in industry-relevant subject matter, to all TRLabs facilities and equipment and to TRLabs highly sought-after graduates for employment. They can develop technologies that come out of the TRLabs research program for market or use them as tools in their own R & D programs. And TRLabs pre-competitive R & D environment sometimes leads to off-line strategic technology or business alliances among sponsors.

TRLabs is Canada's leading ICT research consortium. Through industry-university-government collaboration, TRLabs creates innovative technologies and trains students to enhance Canada's information and communications technology expertise and improve its global competitiveness. TRLabs operates research labs in five cities: Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina and Winnipeg. Its industrial sponsors include telecom carriers, multinational equipment manufacturers, telecommunications service providers and emerging western Canadian ICT businesses. University sponsors are the Universities of Alberta, Calgary, Saskatchewan, Regina and Manitoba, and government sponsors are the Governments of Canada, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
