|
This research is aimed at developing enabling technologies, applications and interfaces that allow people to: interact with their environment and collaborate with each other more effectively; improve the storage, search, retrieval and manipulation of digital media; and provide security and authentication of digital media. Coding & SecurityWith an objective to develop innovative encryption and compression techniques and security methodologies, research is being conducted on multimedia encryption and compression, high order MPEG technologies, and secure access and authentication methodologies.
Interactive MediaThis research area combines elements of augmented reality and enabling technologies such as location and positioning sensors to allow users to interact with digital media applications and content in new and dynamic ways. Current research topics include audio location, indoor positioning systems, and "mobile media centre", automated delivery of an individual’s personal media to any networked device based on the ability of the network to “know” and deliver media to where a user is currently located. Mobile AgentsMobile software agent technology research is focused on both core technologies and applications. Major accomplishments include the development of the TRLabs Execution Environment for Mobile Agents (TEEMA) and the implementation of an agent-based medical image retrieval system. On-going research includes improvements to the TEEMA platform, visualization of agent behaviour, agent-based health records, consumer applications, audio agents, and data mining. Visualization & Collaborative EnvironmentsThe objective of this research is to develop new approaches for visualizing complex data sets and to develop innovative environments that enhance the ability of distributed teams to work together and interact collaboratively. Current research topics include enhancements to a TRLabs-developed visualization engine, distributed computing, collaborative visualization, multi-environment visualization, high-performance collaborative tools, and health-related applications that leverage TRLabs’ visualization technology. Accomplishments include the development of a distributed visualization system that renders 3D data sets in real-time using a network of inexpensive PCs.
