Selection Committee members want to learn about the project lead, project team, and past experiences and accomplishments. The Committee also needs to understand the justification for the innovation idea. Whether it is a primarily technology or business-based idea, they will look for answers to questions such as:
- What problem will the innovation solve (project description and context)?
- Who currently has the problem (target audience or market)?
- What are the alternative technical and/or market approaches to the proposed solution?
- How will the project team solve it (methodology, plan, and deliverables)?
- What is the scientific merit of and/or how big is the market potential for the innovation idea?
- What are the technical and/or financial implications?
- How will the value of the proposed solution be realized?
- How much capital will be needed to develop the solution (and the company supporting it)?
- What kinds of volumes and margins are reasonable to expect?
- What technical and/or market risks will be faced?
- What is the project lead/project team's distinct advantage over others?
- What capabilities and assets are being built upon or leveraged?
- What are the project team's qualifications?
